Default School "Lost" My Family's Confidential Information

I have a serious problem, my son's school counselor lost all of my family's information when I gave him the neccessary data to participate at a university dual enrollment program. The data include copies of social security and green card and all the personal information one can think of. What should I do?

I gave the counselor the information in a manila envelope and ONE paper got to the university, and it was a book order sheet which was the least important; so now I'm suspicious.

I really think that the school should either find and return my documents or face legal matters. I consider this serious when handeling confidential information of such magnitude.

When I tried to talk to them they just told me that they do not know where the information went and then they shooed me off. What should I do? I do not want our information flying around in the hands of the untrustworthy.

Information gets lost sometimes. Such is life.

Other than the cost of a few photocopies, what damage have you suffered?

    I agree wth MKIA.

Your documents most likely are not "flying around" out there for everyone or just anybody to see.

I had to send some important and confidential papers to the college for my son and then I was told they didn't receive them all. I sent them again, but also told them the papers were sent with the others, and please check to see what happened to them. They found them in someone else's folder, they were just misfiled.
