Thumbs up Should I Stay Or Should I Go?
Ha. Love that song. Anyhoo. 17 in OR, thinking about moving out. Cant get a job in the state, we moved here from another, thinking about moving back cus i got 2 of the 3 jobs i used to work at when i was 15 in those states talked to managers and they are guarenteeing that i can come back anytime and work for 7.50 for both of them. So, say i run away and catch a train back to that state, i have 300 (or more, havent checked my accumulated interest in the past forever) in a bank from when i had a job, and i could easily grab that and catch a bus back home. I have friends i can stay with, etc. but yeah, im 4 months give or take a week from 18, and just really sick of this place i live in. I graduated highschool early as well so education is not a problem for me. Well, just looking for some insight in this i guess. The Ramifications on if i get caught, How hard cops are gonna look for me, etc etc. I know its not the brightest idea since its only 4 months, but i know im not going to be getting jobs here anytime soon, and if i go back i can make a couple thousand or more to set me on my feet for when i do turn 18. So. Yeah. Thats the scoop.

If you run away you will be charged as a run away any one letting you stay with them will be charged with Harboring a run away.

There is no way you will make "A couple thousand" working on $7.50 for four months.
If you only have four months until you are 18, wait it out and then move.

And I know you didn't say it but I will just to clear it off the table, you don't meet requirements for emancipation no job no deal. Even if you had one of those jobs you say you would have you wouldn't survive on $7.50 an hour.

Indeed. But what exactly are the charges of a runaway, im pretty much clueless in that whole deal, i get cops called on me, i get slap on the wrist? what.
Secondly, if im staying with someone, thats rent free, and i dont have school, so who says im going to not be working more than 40 hours or so at these jobs cus im plenty up for it, i was working that at age of 15 and yes being as it was illegal not to big a deal to me, i made 400-500 dollar paychecks at 5.50 when i was 15. yes, during summer, and when school came around it came to 300's but yeah, i still say i could make at least 2 grand to save up, the place im considering is within walking distance from where im staying. the most i'd have to pay for is really food, and of course clothes if i need some new ones, and then throw in some money here and there for utilities expenses and good gesture to the people housing me.
even still, im not entirely saying im going to live off these 7.50, im putting it as point that these are jobs im guarenteed right off the bat, so even if it takes a while to find a good paying job unloading trucks or something for 11 at shopko, or so, i will have at least a slight income to work on from that.
And yeah i know the whole emancipation thing, and thanks for including it though i didnt ask for it and already saw it as not plausible i applaud you on your good reply.

The first time you will be brought back to your parents, if you go out and do it again you will be considered a delinquent and then further steps will be taken to take care of the matter.

Also as stated before if you run away and go live with someone they WILL be charged with Harboring A Runaway and that is not a slap on the wrist.

Your work history and how much you make and how much money you have means squat. It's only 4 months wait it out so you don't go and wreck someone elses life.

I must agree with Flyinhawk. 4 months isn't that long. Why not look into a grocery store or fast food, take a class or two when your not working. If you runaway your just causing yourself and others more problems. Stop trying to grow up so fast and think of others.

I am in a similar situation. I am 17 (w/ 10 months to go) and I'm ready to move out.

I'd never heard about the harsh consequences for harboring a runaway. That sucks. Hm...

Good luck man!

Have you discussed this with your parents?

They may be okay with you moving back - if you have a good plan in place.
