Accused Of Fraud By Signing False Timesheets
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Missouri. I am curious what is the penalty and how the process works if someone is accused of signing time sheets that the company deemed false.
I was recently fired by my employer for signing a time sheet of an individual of whose hours were in question. The policy of the employer was for part-timers to enter cumulative hours worked for each day, not the specific times they "clocked" in and out per se. So, a given employee may state they worked 6 hours on a Monday. They may have worked a couple of hours in the morning followed by a couple of hours in the afternoon and then either worked some in the evening, later another day that week or even on the weekend to make up the time. I know the individual was working the hours on off time, and the company never had any issues with the individuals work or completion of projects. The issues arose I believe because I was having a relationship with the employee and they were angered by this. I don't have any real way to prove the individual was working on off hours and such other than what I previously stated about the company never having issues with the individuals work and project completion.
The organization has threatened with civil and criminal legal action. I am curious what I am up against on both fronts, what could happen, how the process works and what I should look out for.
If anyone has the time to respond and discuss this I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you.
