Default Caught With A False ID
My question involves criminal law for the state of: South Carolina

Let me first say, I am 18 years old. Today, I was pulled over by an officer for a speeding violation. To my dismay, I had left my fake ID underneath my real ID, (stupid, I know...) and the officer caught sight of it as I removed my real ID to give to him.

He took both of the ID's, and after a short time came back with two tickets... One for the speeding violation and one for possession of a false/altered ID. I should note, the ID was completely false. It was not a valid ID belonging to someone else or anything like that, rather it was a very poorly made ID printed off of someone's computer and laminated.

The problem is, as it turns out (according to the officer,) the Driver's License Number that was on the ID was a valid DL#. The information for the real DL# of course did not match the information of my fake ID, as it was totally unknown to me that the # was even valid. The officer informed me that it was identity theft/fraud for me to use that DL#. He took down my phone number and said another officer would call me.

According to the ticket, I must pay a fine of $232, and an appearance in court is NOT required. But my question is this: Is it likely that there is going to be a separate charge for "identity theft," since that is what the officer mentioned? Or is it more likely that he was just using a sort of "scare tactic" to make an impression on me? (Which worked, I might add.)

The Violation Section Number is 56-1-510, and the offense code is 87, if that helps.

I am one to completely panic over things, and waiting for the officer who is supposed to call me is killing me. Any insight into this situation would be appreciated.

Thank you!

It's very possible that you could face an additional charge over the fake ID. Keep your fingers crossed.
