Default Possible Welfare Fraud
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Iowa

To start off, I will give you a little back ground into my situation. I got divorced in '97 and obtained physical custody of my two girls at that time. My ex was ordered to pay child support, that is a whole nother problem. I just found out from one of my girls that a few months ago their mom told her that she was getting food stamps (or what ever they call those debit card looking things) with my daughter's name on them. My question is, since I have custody of the girls, I am supposed to recieve support, I pay all their bills, and take care of them on a daily basis, how can she legally recieve assistance for my girls? My daughter is scared to death that she got her mom into trouble because when we were talking this topic "slipped out." She said that her mom told her not to tell me.

Does this constitute welfare fraud in Iowa?

Thanks

Default Re: Possible Welfare Fraud
If she's committing welfare fraud, falsely reporting that your daughter is still living with her in order to get public assistance she would not otherwise receive, she can get into trouble.
