    Default Post Majority Child Support

My question involves child support in the State of: Indiana

My daughter is turning 21 this month and is a full time student in a college of cosmetology. She lives with me and is not currently employed. Her father has filed to stop paying support, yet I will have to continue to support her at least until she graduates, and gets her state license. ZMy question is: Will the Indiana court allow him stop paying support while she is in school? I currently pay for all her living expenses, including her gas and transportation insurance costs, and I earn less than half that of her father. She is attenting college on grants and loans.

    1. who says you have to support your 21 year old child at least until she graduates?
    2. why are you paying for an adult's living expenses, including her gas and transportation insurance costs?

Of this I am not certain, all I can remember from divorce court is that the judge was told my ex was paying such and such and she basically said that should continue.

Because I don't consider putting her on the streets a better option, and the way I see it, once she's finished with school she will have what she needs to make a decent living for herself.

There is a big difference between having to do something and choosing to do it. Since you do not know what your support order says then we can not tell you if the father has to continue payments.

You can get a copy of the order by going to the court clerk's office and requesting one.

Until you read your court order and tell us what it says, we are unable to help you. But I will say this, you are doing your daughter an even bigger disservice by not teaching her to multi-task.

There is absolutely no reason why she cannot work, support herself and go to school. People do it all day, everyday and they come out just fine. If anything, it makes them stronger because they can handle mutiple complicated tasks at one time...
If you wanted babies all to yourself, you should have created them by yourself. Until you do that, children have the right to BOTH parents, especially since you found them suitable to procreate with.

Unlike academic college schedules, as a Cosmetology student, she attends classes 40 hours per week and must complete home study on top of this. I do not know of many people who attend school that many hours and support themselves at her age. She has been diagnosed with a learning disability on top of this, so I think she's doing quite well considering. Please stay on subject and do not resort to bashing my parenting skills. If I want a lecture on parenting, I'll join a parenting forum for that.
    Thank you.
