My question involves small claims court in the state of:ILMy husband was killed on Oct 5. 2005. I was severely depressed. I met a woman who became my friend. I had some jobs that needed done on my trailer lot. I needed a shed, back deck, and a front deck built. I needed a fence put up. My friend just happened to be in this business. I looked at some of her other carpentry work and felt sure she could help me out. We verbally agreed on a price of 6000.00 I paid this upfront to her. We started getting really close as friends. She was in a tight spot and ask to borrow $2000.00 Well, I felt sorry for her and I had the money, so I lent it to her. We agreed verbally when she would pay it back. Shortly after that she became ill and started having siezures. She'd come to work and on a couple of days she had massive siezures that required her to go home. She wouldn't be able to work for several days, not to mention that I was afraid for her to be here. I didn't know she had a history of siezures. When she came back to work, her job performance had gone down hill. I had to let her go and hire someone else to redo what had been done, and to finish what she had already been paid to do. She never offered to refund any money plus she never repaid what she borrowed. Can I get any of this money back if I take her to small claims court
