How Do I Know If Collection Agency Is The Right Guy To Pay

My question involves collection proceedings in the State of:TEXAS

My wife got served this morning for a debt from AT&T. The Plaintiff is Palisades Collection, LLC Assignee of AT&T. I have been reading this site and many others on how to proceed. I am about to write up an Answer since I don't want a default judgment on my wife.

My question is how do I know if this CA is the right person to pay? Is there anyway to verify it? We never sent a VOD, and I am guessing it is too late as they are already suing her. I just pulled her credit report and the date of first delinquency is 09/2004.

Also, the only 'proof' they sent to the court when they filed is a summary of the amount. It was just a screen shot of the amount owed in their database.

Any help is much appreciated.

You can try to find out through the discovery process in court, or perhaps AT&T will confirm for you that they sold the debt to Palisades. You can also check your credit report and see who is listed as the creditor.
