    Default Grandparents Rights

My question involves grandparents rights in the State of:Louisiana. My situation is a bit involved. My son and his girlfriend had a child 2 years ago. My son was not on the birth certificate and thier relationship did not work out. The baby's mother gave my husband and I legal custody when our grandchild was 3 months old, our son had since met and married someone else. The mother has not contacted or supported the child in any way. Our son would like to have joint custody with us but the problem is that he is mentally unstable, always has been and his wife is not much better. We are afraid for her when she is with him. Does anyone know of anything that can be done to deminish his rights? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
