Son In Prison, Husband Cosigned For Car
Ohio
My son had his car repossed in 1999. The bank auctioned it off and he owed 2200.00 it ended up going through a credit agency. He made payments for four months through his checking account. He got laid off and asked the credit agency to wait until the following week when he got his unemployment check to withdraw it. They said ok -- They didn't and caused his account to be overdrawn. They did this twice. He closed his account and told the creditor he would send them a money order once a month. They said they would not accept it. He said fine I guess you don't want your money then. It was then turned over to another credit agency. He told them he was never going to make a payment. My husband cosigned for this loan and we can't afford to make any payments. We have never been approached to pay this loan and my son hasn't paid a dime since 2000The balance is now 10,00.00. As of last May he was sentenced to 9 years in prison. They called us wanting our sons contact information and we told them last August where he was. They still send our son notices in the mail. I don't know what the legal ramifications of this is since this has been in collections so long. Are we going to be in a mess here?
