Default Can I Move From Illinois
Back injury 1/08 off work on TTD, my employer fired me the same day that I turned in claim, so once I am released from my doctor, I won't have a job to return to.

I have some major issues and have to get a couple of MRI's, I slipped and fell, landing on my back and right side, on a hard tile floor. All this at work, and the claim was witnessed by many. (Very embarassing)

My lease is up May 1st.

Most of my money was made by working overtime, and now that I am on TTD my take home pay is about 1/2 of what I am used to living on.

I have to move. I can move to Nevada to live closer to family and since it looks like I might need surgery, it would be nice to have family near by to help with my recovery, etc. (I am single with no children, and closest family is eight hours away)

I read that it might be difficult to find a doctor to accept another state's workman's comp....but it is a very well known national insurance company and I plan to touch base with an attorney before I move, in case I need to retain them later.

Other then the fact I need to find a doctor that will take over my treatment, will my benefits continue, even if I move to another state?

You might want to check into what your responsibilities might be as far as attending WC hearings on benefits eligibility, IME's (Independent Medical Exam), FCE's (Functional Capacity Evaluation). I know that in my state hearings can be done by telephone with approval of the hearing officer. But I don't know how IL handles that or whether or not an IME or FCE if requested by the insurer could be done out-of-state.

My first reaction is that the insurance carrier may use the fact that you're out of state to make things difficult for you to comply with from a travel and logistic standpoint if they can. Right now, only a few month into a claim, it isn't ugly yet. But trust me, if and when the claim drags on the insurance company will get quite adversarial.

I figure the worst that might happen is that I have to fly back to Illinois for an IME.....I know plenty of attorneys through business relationships, so if I needed one, it should be easy to do over the phone, fax, etc...

I will be living just an hour outside of Vegas and can fly non-stop back to this area on short notice if necessary without breaking the bank

I appreciate this website....it puts my mind to ease about things...with my father gone, my mom is still having a diffcult time (it's only been a year) and living closer to her will help both of us out, especially if I have to have surgery.

Thanks again for all your help.
