A basement company damaged my new heater, pipes and electrical panel while installing a French drain. I am told insurance won't cover damages because it was not caused by an accident, but by bad workmanship. I went to small claims and was awarded entire amount, $10,000. They appealed and I had to hire a lawyer who lost the appeal. He has not given specifics, but I think they were awarded for entire amount of contract, about $10,000, plus $6,000 for their lawyer and I'm not sure if they got the $5000 they were adding as a late fee or not? I only have a week left to appeal this amount of $16,000 or more awarded them.
Meanwhile, my lawyer has charged $8000 and I've lost trust in him having any interest in winning an appeal. I have questions about how to sort through his bill but right now I am only concerned about finding someone to file appeal.
I don't know where to start to look for a new lawyer that won't do same thing. He blames the loss on lack of expert witnesses and so I also need to find one of these, I assume to prove the damage was caused by them? I had hired a home inspector just after this happened but he said home inspections don't cover these types of things so I doubt this is what is meant by expert witness.
Any help would be apprciated.
