Failure To Provide Proof Of Insurance

Hey guys,

I recently made an illegal u-turn at a light, got pulled over, and didn't have my insurance card with me at the time. I haven't been pulled over in years but of course the cop still ticketed me for the u-turn and not having proof of insurance. The occourts.org website here states that if you have the insurance card but couldn't provide it to the officer then it's a correctable violation. It says you just have to show it to the court clerk and it'll be waived. My questions are these:

1: My ticket shows that neither violation is correctable why is this?

2: When I called the court just now the customer service lady looked up my ticket and said that it's not a correctable violation and that I either have to pay the full amount or go down to the court and speak to a clerk or request to see a judge. I explained that it said on their own website that it WAS correctable and she said that the codes the officer marked were NOT correctable!! What's up with that??

I'm definitely guilty of the $35 u-turn violation and would probably request traffic school but if it says ON THEIR OWN SITE that the insurance violation is correctable then what do I have to show them/prove to them so they'll waive the rest of the $524 fine??

I don't understand your question. What the clerk told you ("that I either have to pay the full amount or go down to the court and speak to a clerk or request to see a judge.") seems to be exactly what the web site says, "You may either submit proof, as outlined below, with your payment or bring your insurance policy with you to show to the Court Clerk when you appear at the court".

I'm fairly sure that they will drop the fine (there may be a small "administrative fee" -- there is in WA), as long as the paperwork is in order.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I'm just worried that because the cop marked that it wasn't correctable then the court won't honor what their site says and they'll say that the officer was right, which is what the lady on the phone said. The phone lady also said that since I couldn't provide a vehicle code number for what it says on their site then it didn't apply. There is in fact no vehicle code number appended to the section in question on their site. Short of printing the section off their website, taking it to the clerk, and hoping they'll honor it I can't find any other "backup" legal info on this.

Is any of this making sense? I'm sorry, I'm not too legally inclined.

Anything you guys could do to help me compile the required "backup" would be very very much appreciated!!
