Post I'm An Adult And Want To End My Parent's Guardianship Of Me

I am 26 and I have Asperger's Disorder so I live with my parents who are my legal guardians but now I want to know if there is anyway for me to get emancipated? If not how do I go about changing who my legal guardian(s) are? I do not want my parents as my legal guardian anymore. I want to move in with my boyfriend but my parents won't let me and are always telling me where I can and can't go and treat me like a child. The only reason my parents are my legal guardians is because of me having Asperger's Disorder and I'm sick and tired of my parents treating me like a child and holding the fact that they are my legal guardians over my head. I am a regular 26 year old adult who just happens to have Asperger's. So how long would it take from me or the court to change who my legal guardians are? Or for me to emancipated? I really need to be out on my own right now and I need to be making my own decisions and not have someone else make them for me. What exaclty does a guradian do? Any help would be appreciated.

You would have to petition the court that granted guardianship to modify or terminate the guardianship. The duties of your guardians will be defined by the order granting them guardianship and the laws of your state.

My parents won't tell me which county in GA gave them guardianship of me so I don't know which court to petition and they won't even let me see the papers giving them guardianship of me. They say that I don't need to know about it or see it. When I say something my mom doesn't like she has called me retarded and has told me that maybe she should send me to a looney bin as she calls it or to a therapist. This happens all the time.I had a paper I typed up that she signed saying that I could move in with my boyfriend but she ripped it up yesterday. One day my parents are telling me that I can move in with my boyfriend and that they won't fight it but the next day they say that they will fight it. My dad goes along with what my mom says and decides. I didn't really have a problem with them being my guardians until I wanted to go see my friend and they wouldn't let me and then things started getting worse. They tell me where I can and can't go and treat me like a child, they tell me constantly that my boyfriend is lying to me and that I am stupid because I can't see it and they have threaten me by saying if I went to visit my friend then they would call the cops on me and have me thrown in a looney bin. And when I try to talk to them it just makes things worse. If I move in with my boyfriend can the law do anything to me and if so what? Do I have a case to petition the court and to terminate my parents guardianship of me? How can I find out which county gave my parents guardianship of me? All I want is to be able to move in with my boyfriend without any trouble and to either be my own guardian or change who is my guardians.

What counties have you lived in? You can check with the Clerk of Courts in those counties to get the records.
