Default Auto repo: can they take out a lien on my house?
Hi, myself and my 80 year old grandmother have joint ownership of a house. She just got her car repo'ed and resold by the bank. she still owes $9000 or so on the car. Now we have a lawyer calling threatening to do something with our house because we just refinanced. He wasn't clear what they could do. So can they bother my house or my grandmother's retirement and social security payments?

Default Retirement Benefits
Social Security and many retirement benefits are typically exempt from execution. Assuming a judgment is obtained, the creditor will presumably seek assets which aren't exempt from garnishment or execution, and will try to collect against those assets.
