Reentry After Deportation

Hello, I was in the US for almost 10 years and got deported after they found out I overstayed with my visitors visa. That was in 2002 when I came back to Germany. Now I want to go on a visit to the US legally. How can I do that and what papers or visa do I need to visit. My ban period is 10 yrs but I heard there is a way to get a permission to re-enter. I have no criminal records at all only the overstay and I did not get convicted of any crime in the US. Can you pls help me.

However, if you have been banned, your options are limited.
