Default Wrongfully Accused of Forgery
This summer, I went to jail for no reason. Here's why:

I was cleaning out my room and decided to sell my home theater system because I had to pay for college. None of my fraternity brothers wanted to buy it so I put it up for auction on ebay. i put it on and I got an email from a guy saying he would buy it for $600. I agreed and he gave me his shipping address and mailing address. So I pack up the home theater system, put it in a box and mailed it off so I can get the tracking number.
I sent him an email and gave him the tracking number and said that he would send me the money right away.
A few days later, he sends me an email saying that he doesn't have $600 in his bidpay account so he's going to send me a $2000 check and keep $800 and send the rest back.
A few weeks later, the check comes in the mail and I went straight to a check cashing place. I showed them the check, and the lady who worked there said for me to hold on and let her get some information on the check.
I was there for a good 45 minutes and then the cops started to show up. I didn't know what was going on. He asked me questions, asked the lady questions, then comes out tells me to stand up and arrests me for forgery. He told me that the whole check was fake.
I sat in jail for 3 days for no reason because I had nothing to do with the check. They charged me for forgery which is a felony but then got moved down to a misdemeanor charge of theft between $1500-$2500. Turns out that it was a Nigerian scam.

My court date is tomorrow and I have all the emails the guy sent me. I will use those for evidence so what are my consequences of the charge is being found guilty? I don't feel like I am guilty but what are the consequences if found guilty?

Default Texas Forgery Charge?
DFW = Dallas/Fort Worth?

This scam is increasingly common; with a reasonably competent defense lawyer, you should have a good chance of beating the charge.
