Default Collection Agency And SOL's
Which SOL be used in determining SOL if the debt was opened in Maryland 8/1/85 and then sold to collection agency in Virginia in 10/17/97 and I reside in Tennessee. Thanks

Read your contract, where it will tell you what state's laws you agreed to.

I recieved a notice of this debt and I responded by requesting information (a break down with receipts of how this debt was calculated etc.) because I do not remember this debt, but they only have minimal information, such as date debt occurred, when they purchased it, name of creditor and balance. Then they are asking for payment.

Since they do not have the information that I have requested I am trying to figure out the next step. If this is my account it is very old and the SOL must apply. Again, I don't believe there is a contract to be had at this time so that is why I am trying to figure out which state and which SOL, so that I can respond appropriately. They sent me a notorized letter of an Affidavit of Ownership and Sale of Claim and it is from Norfolk, VA.. Again the date of loan was 1995 from Maryland and they purchased it in 1997 (Norfolk, VA) and this is the first time I have heard anything. They have also inquired on my credit report which will stay with me for at least 3 years. How can they do this before you have a chance to do some research. I also requested in my letter to them to contact any credit agencies to whom they may have reported this alledged debt, and inform them that I am disputing the debt. Should I do this. I'd appreciate any help you can give. Thanks

Do most people keep their credit card contracts?
