SSDI And Fraud

My friend collects ssdi and for several years collected benefits for 2 of her children even though they didn't live with her. She knows she made a mistake and is worried sick about getting in trouble. What could happen to her if social security catches up with her? My friend live in Maine.

You would think one could get into big trouble for this. My x husband was collecting Social Security Disability, and because our daughter was under 18 she was entitled to benefits also. While my daughter was living with me, her father, my X-husband, collected over $25,000.00 over a three year period. When I became aware of this, I had to take my daughter in for an interview with SSA. Shortly after, I was appointed Representative Payee and he no longer received the money. You would think they would have jumped on this one. The fraud was right in their lap. I reported this to the Social Security Office of the Inspector General, wrote my congressman, and never received any response. To my knowledge he was never investigated of punished.
Shame on the system...Don't you think so?
