Default Disputed Account Information on Report
An account I had went to collections in 2001. The original creditor sold the account to Credigy Receivables. The new company filed suit against me and I replied as required, I have not heard anything else. I check my credit report today and find that they have updated my file with a ridiculous amount owed, way more than original debt. I also see that date of last payment (made to the original creditor) was in April 2001. This information is on my credit report. The statue of limitations in Texas is 4 years. How is this company able to continue updating my credit report with a high balance owed? How are they able to file suit against me if the statue of limitations has expired? I have contacted the credit reporting bureaus and a note has been put on my report that I have disputed the account information. I just don't understand how they are able to make this account look like it is current. Any information regarding this is appreciated.

Default FDCPA
If they are contacting you: Have you send the collection agency formal notification that you believe the debt to be expired under the statute of limitations, and demanded that they no longer contact you?

Note that the period of time a debt can be displayed on your credit report can be longer than the statute of limitations. A bad debt might appear for 7.5 years, even if the statute runs after four years.
