Default Mileage Reimbursement In Illinois
I live in Illinois.

My doctor is sending me to therapy for a work related injury. I am a lower wage service worker and almost 1/2 of my weekly benefits are needed for the 46 mile round trip back and forth to the therapy. On top of the fact I can't drive myself due to the pain killers I am on. (Narcotic)

I choose this doctor, the therapy he wants me to have is not available closer to my home.

I know many years ago (about 20) I used to get paid for my miles when visiting doctors and therapy during treatment for a work comp injury. Was this insurance company just being nice, or is it required that they do so?

If the treater is approved by your insurer for your care, you should get mileage reimbursement. Your insurance company may have log forms or reimbursement forms that they expect you to use. As of July 1, 2007, the rate used by the IWCC for mileage reimbursement is 48.5 cents per mile.

Thank you. I had requested this in writing from the work comp carrier but she never replied, so just wanted a little more info before I hit her up again.

Your attorney is correct.

Years ago, they paid for the mileage, the Act has changed several times.

I spend over 1/3 of my weekly benefit check on getting to therapy. It sucks.

Oh man, sorry to hear that. I have been there before a couple years back.

My job is only about a mile from my house, where I have therapy is 23 miles each direction!
