Underaged Fiancé

im almost 17 my boyfriends almost 19 were engaged. is there any laws against us where im under age? Can my parents try to get him in trouble?what are the laws for a 16/17 yr old in the state of west virginia ? I also heard you could move out a few months before your 18 b-day ,is this true?

The rules of the forum prevent us from telling you whether or not what a minor is doing or what someone is doing with a minor is legal or illegal.

That having been said:
1) Parents can always cause problems/trouble; realistically it is their way of protecting their child. Most won't go ballistic over a 17 and 19 year old dating.
2) Parents can always hit the 19 year old up with a compliant of "contributing to the delinquency of a minor" charge.
3) Parents can always file a restraining order.

Back in 1992/1993 when in college for Criminal Justice I did some research on statutory rape charges after a friend, who was 18, was accused of being in a relationship with a 17 year old. They [parents] were both poor, single mothers, and living in subsidized housing. His Mom had a rich boyfriend and people wanted money from her/him. After copying the WV State Code and providing it to both parents we were able to show that while what he was doing was not approved by the parents, the State Code specifically spelled out everything. Rather than filing a restraining order the parents just asked that they wait until they are 18 to see each other. Of course we all know what happened; they snuck around and someone got pregnant. Well, she snuck around with 2 guys and paternity was called into question until the day of birth. When the child was born we obviously knew it wasn't my friend "Dork's" kid.

Another piece of advice - Don't pull an R. Kelly and film or photgraph anything!
