Default Child Support And High School Graduate

I am in Colorado and child support is ordered until the child reaches 19, however what happens when the child graduates high school and then moves away to go to college or just gets an apartment of their own? My wife receives child support for a child who will graduate high school at age 17 and plans to go to college away from our home. How does child support orders work in these cases. It seems that child support should not be paid or received for children who are not living with one or the other parent.

If you believe your child is now independent, and that a modification of support is thereby justified, you bring a petition in the court that ordered support and ask that your obligation be modified or terminated.
