Can A Fix-it Ticket Violate Probation

Hello,

I live in California and was recently put on three year informal probation. One of the conditions of my probation is that i "violate no law." I am assuming that a traffic ticket such as speeding would violate my probation, but would a fix-it ticket such as window tint or loud exhaust violate my probation?

A: To be sure, ask the folks who put you on probation. But I doubt that they violate your probation. One word of caution: If your conditions include "no contact with law enforcement" you could have a problem. It would be best for you to report this to whoever put you on probation; do it in writing.

If it comes up later, then you will have proof that you told whoever put you on probation.

Will it violate your informal probation? I would be absolutely amazed if it did!

I have never heard of such a thing happening in my 17 years as a cop in CA.
