My mom got her tax refunds back a week or so ago only to find that there was a large sum taken out of her return due to my father filing for child support for me from her for the years between 1998-2002. Here's the thing...I've never lived with him for a day in my life. He's never been my guardian. His mom (my grandma) took care of me up to 1998 in Hawaii and from 1998-2002, my mom was granted guardianship over me and she lived in California. I am now an adult and my father lives in Hawaii and I'm trying to figure out how he can claim any child support when he never "supported" me. My mom moved to Oregon from California a few years ago and didn't have the money to fly to Hawaii to go to court over this. How can my father still get this money and how can we handle this without actually spending money for the flight to Hawaii?
