Default Check fraud and forgery
Im 18 and have never been in trouble before. I found this check, that was already signed at my college for $1000 and decided to deposit it into my bank account.(yea... I know) Anyway, after I deposited it, I felt terrible because it wasnt mine so I found the orginazation that it belonged to and wrote them a check for the amount that i deposited. Little did I know, the check had been altered and the signature on the back was forged. But I didnt do it. The police have contacted me... I gave them a false statement.. which i realize, now, is a crime within itself.. and Im just wondering what is going to happen next. I dont know what charges have been filed against me or anything but since I gave them a false statement already, im sure they wont believe that i didnt alter the check or forge the signature.

Default Forgery of Check
It's a safe bet that they won't believe you. (They probably wouldn't believe the part about you finding a $1,000 endorsed check on the ground, and deciding to deposit it in your own account, either. They're skeptical like that.) And you've dug yourself deeper into a hole with your false statement.

You should consult a criminal defense lawyer.

Default Re: Check fraud and forgery
I have a relative who stole a check from his sister. He signed his name on the bottom of the check as if it was his account and then used it to have his tire aligned at a tire store. His sister found out (she works at a bank) and told her bank. The bank is now going to get her money back from the tire store and the tire store will now know the check was taken. What options does the tire store have now that the check will come back as stolen?? And what will happen to my relative who took the check and used it??
