Colorado Unemployement

My daughter worked in a mental health hospital in Lafeyette Colorado.She was a housekeeper.She was fired in the spring of 2007.She filed for unemployement.She was denied at the time and never followed up on it.Can she refile or ask for an appeal?She was told at the time something about the hosital was nonprofit that made them exempt from having to pay unemployment.I have never heard of such a thing. I am wondering where to find out. Thanks Ken

Was she told that she would be eligible if she refiled a year later? Has anything changed since the initial denial?

There are some non-profit organizations that are exempt from unemployment requirements. If the hospital was exempt last year, it's not likely that your daughter's eligibility would have changed this year unless in the intervening time she has worked for an eligible employer, and worked long enough to qualify for benefits.

Nonprofit organizations are not required to purchase unemployment insurance through the State of Colorado. However, they are required to register with the Unemployment Division. If an employee files a claim, the organization will be asked to reimburse the State of Colorado for payments made.
