Unhappy Being Sued By HSBC
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Husband and I are being sued in Civil Court by a bank credit card. I owe 1700.00 and my husband owes 3700.00 We were unable to pay because he was injured on a job (He's self employed) and I am a diabetic with many complications.

My Questions are...

Do we need a lawyer to go to court?

We do not really own anything but our home(We owe 205.000) and a 9yr old Durango. We have no equity in our home.

What is the worst that will happen?

We did hire a place to help us consolidate all our cards Back in Sep 07 and they don't seem to be willing to work with them.

We live in NJ

Someone Please help we only have until March 08

A lawyer wouldn't be a bad idea.

Here's what they can't do:

Send you to jail, take your house, take your car.

Here's what they can do:

Put a lien on your house, garnish your bank account.

A lien means you wouldn't be able to refinance or sell until the lien was satisfied. Garnishing your bank account is a little more serious - it means they can get permission to take money directly out of your bank account, up to the legal limit, at set intervals until the debt is satisfied.

I had the same thing happen to me by the same credit card company. I could not afford an attorney, so what i did is call the attorneys for hsbc, told them what was going on money wise and offered them a monthly amount that I could pay. They said yes. I owe them around 1500.00.

You can always just call and see if they will work with you, the worst that would happen is that they say no.

This has to be the worst cc company on the planet!
I had a problem with them this past year...took 6 phone calls before I could reach someone who spoke any kind of english that I could understand. Then when I demanded a supervisor, they said "You have to call US"....????????? I was calling a 1-800 #. Another 3 phone calls to the US???? and still no one who spoke any kind of understandable english. I will never do business with this company EVER.

I agree! They are horrible. More then once, they have taken my payment, processed it electronically instead of depositing the check and called me stating I was in "collections" and that they needed to collect my balance in full. I DONT THINK SO! I went round and round with them and finally just had enough and closed my account. Now, I am forced to make payments online to get a confirmation number... ANd when you call to speak with someone, you cant and they are not easy to understand.... Really? What country do we live in?
