I live in Arkansas and my half-brothers' father died this week.
The boys are 14 and 16.
My mother and their father (my step-father) recently divorced.
My mother voluntarily left the home and her two sons with their father and moved to another city with intentions of establishing residence and appealing the custody decision granted by the court at a later date.
Now that their father has passed unexpectedly, the boys' mother assumes she will take custody of them. However, they are temporarily staying at my place of residence for a few days until after the final arrangements are made for their father.
I am very disturbed by my mother's intention to take the boys into her custody. I am concerned about many aspects of their safety and welfare and want to protect my brothers' best interest by petitioning for their guardianship.
Also, I should mention that this is somewhat of a time-sensitive matter as well becuse there are monies involved that, if not protected, will be abused and will not benefit the boys for whom they are intended.
Any and all suggestions would be unbelievably appreciated...as I am going through a particularly nasty divorce myself, and I have literally no extra money to proceed with any other legal matters.
Please help me in any way that you can.
