Ex May Stop Paying Half Of Mortgage - What Can I Do?

I ended a long relationship with my boyfriend a year ago. We have been trying to sell a house we co-own together for many months. We lived in it together for 2 years. I have been living in the house and maintaining it until it sells. He has moved back into his former home. He now tells me he may not be able to continue making payments on the home. I know that I would then be responsible or else it would go into forclosure. My question is, if I take out a loan or somehow find the money to pay the entire mortgage myself (which will be a financial stretch for me without a loan) do I have any legal recourse against him? Can I sue him for his half of the payment? Can I have a lien placed on any of his assests? BTW, this is in NC.

If I could interject, while I tend to agree on it's face, the spousal immunity application may bar any suit? Depends on state laws on torts/contracts.
