Default Statute of Limitations For Car Theft

Does statute of limitations apply to a car theft. The facts being a leased car never returned. No warrant was ever delivered to the person involved. Is there a time limit neccessary or can a warrant be issued years later.

Laws are different in each state and country. In the U.S., in most states a statute of limitation would apply.
