Caught Shoplifting But No Cops Called

Ok well earlier today for the first time in my life i shoplifted a video game it just looked so easy and thought no one was looking. long story short they took me to this room and asked me a bunch of questions. I didn't have my ID at the time and showed them my college id and then they called my mom to verify all the information they asked me. They guy was actually pretty cool about it. He didn't call the cops. I guess it was more of a warning they took a pic of the item and me. He said it was for target only and their records if i ever do it again. He said he didnt want to call the cops because he didnt feel like doing all the paper work. He was actually pretty nice and i was cooperative. The item was 20 dollars and they said i would just get a fine in the mail. I want to know how much this fine will be he said he could be anywhere from 100 -800 bucks. I also want to know if this is it or do i have a criminal record the cops were never contacted . TY in advance.

how sure are you on that? also is that it, will it be over with and how do i pay this bill if i dont have any credit cards or anything. Also do i have a criminal record?

Oh, because the guy said it was based on how much the item was (20$) and how long i was in the office which was like 10 mins. So im looking around 200 bucks Thanks for your help . But since the police werent involed am i ok? sorry for asking again and all but im just scared.

The store has nothing to gain by filing charges just pay the Civil Demand and consider this your lucky break
