Default Summons For Collection On A Credit Card
California- I received a Summons from a law firm on behalf of a Collection Agency on a card (open book). Help!!! I only have 2 weeks to respond.

What is the first thing I should do? How do I know when to show up to court? The Summons (SUM-100) doesn't show this. Does the court set the court date? Can I request documentation from the Plaintiff that the deliquent account is legitimate?

As you can see I'm lost and would appreicate assisatnce from somebody. I really can't afford an antorney to represent me.

Thanks you!

The first thing you do is follow the instructions you received, by filing your answer (and raising any affirmative defenses). The court should notify you of any court dates once you have answered. You can also verify with the court whether any hearings are pending. Here's a site about discovery in California (the process of getting access to the other side's evidence).
