My young son's girlfriend gave birth to what we believe is his child. Several weeks after the birth of the child, my son was asked to go to the hospital (in Kansas) where the child was born to have his blood drawn; I assumed this was a paternity test. My son said he signed the baby's birth certificate while at the hospital and soon after he received paperwork to begin child support payments. Now my son tells me that the dr. who drew his blood mentioned beforehand that he needed to be tested for the sickle cell trait because he is African American. I am not sure if his blood was drawn for the purpose of determining paternity or sickle cell, and because of my son's age and maturity, neither does he. He never received any paternity test results. My question is how do we get the paterinity test results (if one was given), and what types of paternity tests are usually administered (medical names)? I'm really not sure a paternity test was ever given.
