Reduction Of Careless Driving Violation

I received a speeding violation and careless driving for being clocked at 90 in a 55 in Minnesota.
What happened, as I passed a car headlights appeared from the other direction. I then accelerated to safely get around the vehicle and back into my lane of travel. Unfortunately the headlights were that of a sherif and I was clocked as stated.
Would it be possible to get the careless part of this violation reduced or even dropped?

I would say your chances for a reduction or dropped charge are slim.

I am assuming that here careless is the same as reckless. You do need to contest the ticket by at least showing up in court. You can find out whether your first appearance is an arraignment or an actual trial. The clerk of court can tell you. If it is an arraignment you can go in and try to negotiate. If you do not like the deal you can ask for a trial and then decide whether to retain an attorney.
