A man a work convinced me into investing alot of money with his brother in law with a $2000.00 return over the original investment in one year. Well I got everything in writing and now the year is up and he does not have my money. Someone please tell me what I can do legally!!!! The state is Va.

Do you have it in writing that the investment is/was a "guaranteed" return. If so, you could sue him.

... Or if the investment was never made. (In which case you should also consider filing a police report.)

    What happened with the investment?

Guessing - that isn't going to help anybody here. We need facts.

Please answer the questions that were asked.

    I'll add one more.

Was the investment ever made? (Which Aaron implied.)

If i knew what he did with the money i would tell you. He continues to tell me that the money is invested and cannot get it out right now. He wrote me a check in jan. 2007 for the amount of the investment and put at the bottom gaurentee of investment. The bank said the account did not have sufficient funds. I deposited the check anyway.

If it was truly an investment, investments carry risk. If he was trying to trick you to get money for a non-investment purpose, you can sue him and get it back. If the court believes that he guaranteed a return on your investment, even considering investment risk there's a good chance that a court will order him to pay it back.

    Virginia small claims court.

The amount involved was over 5000.00. I don't think small claims court goes above that amount. concerning the check he wrote to gaurentee of funds the checking account was closed. Can he be charged with a felony for writing a bad check?
