I was stopped for shoplifting at a Wal-Mart in my area about a month ago. It was my first time and I was very cooperative with the personnel there. They had me sign a document saying that I would not go into any Wal-mart anywhere for the rest of my life, and told me that I would be receiving a letter in the mail in 2-3 weeks with information about my fine and a number to call to set up payment. The police were called, but it was made clear to me that this was completely a civil matter and that nothing would show up on any permanent records unless I did not pay the fine that was given to me. The police escorted me out of the building, and that was it. So a month goes by, and I still have heard nothing whatsoever from Wal-mart. No letter, no phone call (I gave them my cell number). I did some googling just a couple minutes ago and found a number on this website that another member had called for Wal-mart when he was caught shoplifting there. The number was 1-800-236-7428. I called the number, and got a voice saying you have reached Wal-mart's asset protection service, press 1 for English, etc., so I pressed one and got a guy in just a minute. I told him my situation, that I was told I would receive a letter but didn't and that I had gotten this number off the Internet, and he proceeded to ask me my name and what state I was stopped in, which I gave him. He couldn't find anything in his system at all, even after I gave him the address that I had given Wal-mart. He asked for my SS# and I gave him the last four digits, but he said he needed all 9, and I told him I wasn't comfortable giving that out over the phone. He then told me I could call the Wal-mart and ask for a case number or something to give him, and that was the end of the call.

My question is, should I call the Wal-mart I was stopped at and see if they can give me anything, or just let it go? On one hand I don't want to have criminal charges posted, but on the other I'm not sure if there was some sort of glitch or they just didn't process my information. Has anyone been in this situation before or do you know what is supposed to happen? Any help is greatly appreciated
