Default Hats Off To The Good People Of Missouri!

My cousin sent me a article about how his state (Missouri) is making huge social progress. His state has taken justice out of the dark ages. Instead of throwing away their children and sentencing them to a life of crime, they provide TRUE rehabilitation. Success rates are as high as 93%. I can only hope my state (Texas) will adopt this enlightened way of life. America may finally be making progress.

yes I did. one of the amazing facts is it is not more expensive to do what they are doing than what they had been and what everybody else is doing.

    maybe the word will spread

Of course it's not. In fact, in the long run, it probably saves 10 dollars for every 1 it spends.

    Perhaps I misjudged you.

when I first starting reading that I thought, "great, they found something that works but it probably costs a fortune compared to tossing them in jail like they are so when budgets get tight, this thing goes away" but as I read that it is comparable to the lower end of estimates of current costs of actions, I was truly amazed.

They have no true reason to abandon this method unless it later proves to be not effective as they believe it to be. You know how those guys play with numbers to come up with what they want.

In the bigger picture, it should save much more money as well as the recidivism is reduced. So should costs to maintain the prison system as the population should ultimately be reduced. Additionally, we should have more productive workers in society so the tax income should go up as well which would allow for overall tax reductions or expenditures that cannot be funded as things are.

Next thing you know, we will be in Utopia...well, maybe not that far but hopefully this does help in many areas.

Hopefully this is as good as it looks and the rest of the states take notice of it.

Well this will blow my smart*ss image outa the water...........I've been a volunteer mentor in one of these programs through my county's Sheriffs Department since '96. Twice a month I "do time" with some of the same type of kids I send up for shoplifting and the like. But, being that I live quite a ways away from where I work I never see the the same kids. Besides, there are guidelines that prohibit both myself and the Deputies I volunteer with from being in contact with the same kids we've had 'first contact' with.

In the years that I've been involved with this I've seen a bit more success stories than repeat-offending stories, and that differential keeps growing.

Although I maintain a "jaded" facade, this exeptional set of programs is making a profound difference.....one individual at a time.......

Just don't tell any of my buds I'm a genuine caring, good-hearted guy 12 hours a month...it'll be our little secret.
You can educate dumb, but you can't fix stupid!

If guns kill people, then I blame my pen/pencil/keyboard for misspelled words!
