Default Cited For Driving Without Proper Driver's License And Registration

I recently went to Pittsburgh to pick up my son - we had drove all night and when we reached Michigan I stopped to Wal-Mart to pick up a few things I needed to complete Halloween costumes for my grandchildren, this was at 4:30 am. From there we went to Tim Horton’s for apple cider we went through the drive thru and approached Pennsylvania road and drove across the street to Walgreens. My son and I were going to go into Walgreen to purchase Halloween cards for the kids... As we approached the parking area we decided that we could do this later in the day. It was now 5:30 am and we were both tired.

So I followed the parking lot to the front exit and continued across the Street using a turn a round to get on the other side of the street. That is when the officer pulled me over...his perception was that I was impeding traffic by avoiding the traffic light. This was not the case. I told him the scenario that I just explained to you however he was not satisfied. When he ran my license it came up suspended...which I was not aware of.When the officer came back he arrested me, handcuffed me, towed the vehicle I was driving, and removed my son and our belongings from the car. He took me into the police station, handcuffed while being transported and booked me. My son had to post a 200.00 bond for my release. Initially when I got the first ticket mentioned above I paid 200.00 to the State of Michigan for driving without proper license and registration. It was the first time this ever happened to me. I thought that fee was for the ticket itself however it was not. What I did not know is that the State has fees separate from the city/ticket venue in which it was given. I do have documentation to show this payment but I did not pay the ticket to the court and that is why they suspended my license. Had I known the fees were two separate entities I would have handled them that way. .

Part of my job description is providing transportation for a private community I asked the officer why would I get a ticket for changing my mind about going into a store at 5:30 am - he said that if that was the case I should have exited the way I entered instead of using an exit that was in front of me. I feel that many people have pulled into a parking lot only to change their minds and once they did they continued driving to leave the lot either at the same exit they arrived in or the one that is in front of them It was not my intention to avoid a traffic light. We were both tired and decided Walgreens could wait.

My license was suspended due to a non registered vehicle that I purchased in Ohio - that is now is the hands of an attorney - however I did not know that it was suspended
