Default Pressing Charges A Few Years Later

My exboyfriend was abusive to me and there was a few times that the police came and arrested him and he was charged with domestic violence.. One time that the police did not come he seriously harmned me breaking my nose that resulted in needing surgery to fix it. We broke up soon after, now he is in jail for hitting his current girlfriend. Even though a few years have passed is there anyway to press charges to help her out? Also is there a way to clear your record of misdomeaners?

Depends on the state, and how manay years in a "few".

This case sounds to be a felony (at least in Texas), If it's been less then 5 years or so you could theoretically file charges. However, the police might think it's a bit fishy that you're waiting so long to file such serious charges.

Even if you do file charges on him it may not help his current girlfriend. Most lawyers file motions to keep a defendants past criminal history out of court. Unless the victim is the same person these motions are usually granted.

As for your second question... I suggest you look into a process called expungment. Most states allow you to erase petty crimes from your record. Some states even allow you to erase felonies.

    Good luck.
