Is Legal Aid Free

Is legal aid free? I am being sued in Florida and it has a pre trial in mid Feb. 08 and I cannot afford an attorney. Not even working.

i just posted the results of my case in florida, which i used a legal aid lawyer that was great. i am on a small pension and she agreed to help me no problem. i dont know what the cutoff is for income, but she was at court house handing out pamplets while waiting for our case to be heard and offering assistance to anyone that wanted it.i think some cases they will take easier than others,especially if they win for you, they get attorneys fees granted to their legal aid office just as the plaintiff gets fees granted if they win.
in fact the judge mentioned to everyone there that there was legal aid there to help. so if you are being sued i would DEFINITELY call them and make appointment.
