Default Bringing Domestic Violence Charges Against Your Parents
I'm a 17-year-old male living with my parents.

I was slapped by my mother twice this morning. Father threatened to knock my teeth out and throw me out of a 2nd story window. Claimed that I was to blame after "crossing the line" by using the "F word" around my little siblings in an argument over dishes...

Also, in February earlier this year (2005), my father pinned me down in my own bed, straddling me with one hand around my neck and the other clenched in a fist. Again, he threated to knock my teeth out for using bad language. The argument was about whether I was to go to school after being sick for a long amount of time and after I was replying to my mother who was yelling at me to get up from down the stairs.

I mentioned filing charges, but my father, who is associated with the law in his career, claims that the judge would see it as "necessary disciplinary action". I don't see how this could be the case, as physical confrontation doesn't seem like a justifiable "self defense" in a verbal argument... Especially where I was not threatening the well being of anyone.

Sounds like assault and battery to me...

Thanks in advance for your help.

Default Discipline versus Abuse
If you think your parents crossed the line, you always have the option of filing a police report. But if you're looking to try to manipulate the situation with threats of going to the police, you're probably just going to make your home situation even more tense.

Well, if I have a case, then I won't need to worry about making it worse as the courts would step in.
