do I need one and where would I go to get one? My recently deceased father had set up a revocable trust naming me as the successor trustee of the estate upon his death. to sell his car and some stock they both ask for a letter of administration. Help..

You would open an estate in the probate court pursuant to the laws of your state.
Laws are different in each state.

ok thanks for the response. I opened the estate in probate court on Friday. Assets subject to probate in Maryland were anything not referenced in my fathers trust agreement of course but he had some stock referenced in the trust agreement but he had not xferred the stock into the trust's name so it is subject to probate. His house and life insurance were not subject to probate in that they are held in the name of the trust. I needed to set up an estate bank account and can sell the assets subject to probate but the proceeds need to be held in this estate bank account for 6 months. Out of this estate account I can pay off claims by creditors against the estate. I can also move up to $5,000 out of the estate account to reimburse for funeral expenses. I cannot use the estate account to pay expenses relating to assets held in trust, i.e. the house. This is all my understanding from the discussion with the register of wills office from their probate representative.
