I was caught by the Loss Prevention at Macy's in California for stealing $258 worth in 2 shirts. I had found the 2 shirts without the sensors on and I stole them one at a time in the dressing room. The only video tape they have is of me looking at the shirts.
I had to sign a paper from Macy's agreeing to the amount I stole and the officer said I'd get a letter in the mail from them for the total amount I have to pay.
Then the LAPD came and I had to go to jail while they filed the crime under 484 PC. I didn't have to post bail because I was "OR"-ed but I did have to sit around for about 5 hours in jail and do my fingerprints and stuff until the paperwork went through. Then I simply went home.
My court date is Dec 17th but I was wondering what is going to happen to me? This is my 1st offense of ANYTHING and my record is clean. I cooperated and balled my eyes out because I was so scared.
I am just wondering how much the court fees are going to be? Should I get an attorney? I didn't even have to post bail so is that good sign or should I be worried about the court date?
Also, is it possible to get the crime expunged if I get a lawyer?
Sorry for such a long post but if anyone has any legal advice it would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thank you
