Question Shady Collection Tactics After Returning a Car to the Lender

    Name: Mackenzie
    State: TN

This issue started in Michigan, progressed to Nevada, and is now happening in Tennessee.

I purchased a car in Michigan from Credit Acceptance Corp (further known as the company), and when I moved to Las Vegas Nevada and became homeless, I returned the car because I could no longer afford it. The company failed to go and pick up the vehicle siting it was "not worth the time to go get a used car". They stated that there was a balance due in the car and worked out an arrangement wit me to pay them $50 a month on the loan until the summer break for school and then it would got up to $150, then back down when the semester resumed. I am a full time student working 28 hours a week.

I sent my first payment (I kept the receipt and the letter of payment) on time as promised. A week later, a lawyer starts calling and threatening me with garnishment. They started calling times a day, and when I talked to some one they told me I was a dead beat, that the client wanted nothing to do with me, and short of my whole paycheck nothing was acceptable to them as a payment.

I called the company back and they told me the girl I ad spoken to was fired, and then they hung up on me!

I have tried working with Debt consolidation and that only caused the calls to get more frequent, so I have sent written notice to them to cancel my account siting that they have not prevented the creditor harassment.

I gave the car back, the company failed to go get it of their own free will, I tried to do the right thing.

What can I do against these people??

They are using shady tactics and I am not taking it anymore.

Thank you all for your help,

    Mackenzie

You can pay your debt, or you can ignore them and see what they do.
