Default License Suspended Three Years for a 50 Cent Fine Balance

I live in PA and my license was suspended because I received a ticket and I paid all but 50 cent of it and they suspended andi didn't and i kept driving and got pulled over and i got a ticket but I received a ticket in the mail for drving while under suspension. And before I got the one in the mail i got another one and now my license is suspended for 3 years. And the funny thing is when i called the district office who started this whole thing they just said don't worry about it it really shouldn't have been suspended for a mere 50 cent anyway. Someone told me to contact my local representative and see if he can do anything about since it was so trivial. Is that the right way to go. and if it is will it work

You were in a better position before you committed the second DWLS crime. Before that you could have paid the 50 cents, had your license reinstated, explained the situation to the prosecutor, and perhaps obtained a dismissal. But what's your excuse the second time around?

I suggest you get help from a lawyer.

PennDOT does not care how much the fine amount was so whoever told you not to worry about it was dead wrong!

You need to take some steps here to correct this problem.

First you need to go pay the .50 and make sure you get a clearance from the court (form DL-38) and check with PennDOT to make sure that they have cleared the indefinite suspension for that violation.

Next you need to fight the two DUS charges. These charges each carry a year of suspension. If you just pay them you will be found guilty and have that suspension imposed.

Once you request a hearing for both of those tickets, and pay the small fine for the first violation, your license should be ready to be restored pending the outcome of the hearings. (again ask for a copy of the DL-38 if they suspended you for non payment already)

The last step you need to take is to pay PennDOT a restoration fee. They will NOT restore your license till they get that money! So do not drive till you get a letter from them telling you that your license is restored.

Once you have a valid license in your possession you can take that to court on the two tickets and ask the judge for a break. See if you can get the charges reduced to something that does not carry a suspension. I would suggest you seek legal help in your area.

I am not an attorney but I have been doing this for a long time.
