No Contact Assault in Illinois
I was arrested after a verbal altercation and charged with simple assault. Can I plead guilty or do I need a lawyer? And, can I get a continuance? My court date is around the holidays and I would like to post pone it if at all possible. Thanks.

Re: No Contact Assault in Illinois
Hire a lawyer, get advised on how to plead, and have your lawyer seek a continuance.
You can plead guilty if you truly want to, after which you will get a criminal record then be sentenced for the crime.

Re: No Contact Assault in Illinois
I suggest hiring a lawyer before your court date, or contacting the court for information on their process for requesting a court-appointed lawyer.
