Default Simple Domestic Battery Against a Parent
I live in Florida. I am being charged with domestic batttery against my mother. What happened is my mother jumped me hitting me over 10 times. I tried to get her off of me and ended up hitting her in the nose. The police report states that she had a bloody nose. It was not broken. So she called the police and told them that I just punched her in the nose for no reason. The cops came out and saw bruises on me and deep scratches. So they arrested us both. I got out of jail the next night I got ROR without supervision ( Released on my own reconices) Provided that I have no contact with the so called victim. I've heard through other family members that she feels really bad and she wrote a letter to the state attorney office requesting them to drop charges and I did the same for her. My mother has no prior record. I have no prior record not even a speeding ticket. Now I find out that I could be going to jail up to 1 year and payng up to 1000.00 in fines this is not right! I've talked to other people and they said because it is my first offense that I will probably get probation or they may even drop the charges all together. Should I be worried????? Does it lessen the charge because its considered simple domestic battery emphasis on simple. I am requestig that my public defender reduce the charges. What can Simple Domestic Battery be reduced to ?????PLEASE HELP ME I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DO.

You're doing the right thing by asking us to pay for your lawyer.

I hope he is a good lawyer.

The only thing you CAN do at this point is let your attorney handle it. He cannot guarantee a reduction in charges, but chances are he can keep you from a lengthy jail stay for this ... depending on the specific charges you face, of course. If they have you for a felony and for elder abuse, that may be difficult.

Freaking out is not going to help or resolve anything. Maintain a level head, stay in touch with the attorney, and understand that the legal system often moves at a snail's pace.

Default Ok Im Back Again With Good News......
Remember me I got charged with Simple domestic battery and arrested and put in jail for the night. Well the courts decided that they did not have sufficient evidence to prosecute me. Just when I think this nightmare is over I find out that my carrer in Education is in peril.I am going to college to be an elementary school teacher. Originally I thought that I could get my crminal record sealed or expunged, but to find out latter that the Board of education can access any charges on my record. Should I be worried the status of my case is No Information filed and I have no prior record and I was not covicted of any felony or misdemenor. Does this matter. Is my career as a Elementary Teacher in trouble forever.
Still looking for answers. Someone please help
Maryann
