Default Default of Car Loan by Ex-Girlfriend, Co-Title Holder
Here is my situation. California.

My ex girlfriend and I lived together until June of 2003. Prior to us breaking up she bought a car; a 2004 Volvo S40. Due to favorable interest rates at my credit union we got the loan there and I became a co signer. She made the payments on time until about 3 months ago when she started to be late, but she ultimately made them. This month she has not made the payment and in order to protect my credit I made an "emergency” wire transfer to the account.

The credit union has told me that I am a co-title holder and I have asked them to send me the loan information. They also put me in touch with their insurance people. They advised me the vehicle has a policy dated 9-30-07. I also got the policy number and the insurance company name.

The problem is that my ex won’t answer her cell phone and last I knew she was living in Chicago. Prior to that she was living in Houston and has not lived in California since at least 05, or maybe early 06.

I’m waiting for her to call me and hopefully clear this up, but I'm trying to prepare for the worst possibility where she just stops making the payments.

She owes about 3800.00 on the vehicle.

What can i do? Thanks in advance.

Since you are co-title holder & co-signed on the loan, you are just as responsible for the debt as your ex-girlfriend.

You may want to make these payments yourself or pay off the loan if you can to protect your credit rating. You can later possibly try suing your ex-gf to get your payments back.
