Car Stolen From a Repair Shop

My car was stolen from the premises of a repair shop, they say that they are not liable and that I need to turn it into my insurance. Don't they have something in place to cover this? I don't want to be frowned upon by my insurance compnay for filing this claim. I am from Ohio

What do you mean by "premises" - do you mean, while it was parked in their parking lot? Or was it actually inside a building? Did they do something to abet the theft, such as leaving the vehicle unlocked in the parking lot with the keys in the ignition? (Yes, I've actually seen repair shops do that.... )

They had parked it outside of their facility in their parking lot. How can they possible not be responsible? I dropped off my car to be fixed, left it in their care, and expected it should be there when they finished the work. They had not even finished the work at the time.

From what you say, that's no different from it's being parked anywhere. The premises owner isn't automatically liable merely because somebody steals a car from their parking lot.

Your insurance rates don't go up for filing a theft claim. And, if your insurance company feels that the repair shop was negligent, then they will subrogate.

Did someone from the repair shop steal the car?

Never even had a passing througfht that maybe somebody from the shop stole it. The parking lot is a the local mall. This is a national franchise and I guess I was just taken back. The insurance company is looking into it now. I just don't know what to think. Ihave never had a car stolen.

Did the repair shop's insurance end up covering you? The same thing just happened to me but I do not have comprehensive insuranse so my car is not covered for theft, and I am depending on their insurance covering me. thanks
